Hello World!
Miscancellous No comments yet.If you are familiar with web design, you know you are your worst client. This is because, just when you start to design a personal project, you get this strangest idea that all your attributes will be evaluated through that design. You try to guess how people especially in this business (and who happen to be your potential competitors) will criticise your work the first time they see the homepage and when they “view page source”. It is as frustrating as a popularity contest. You try to be too harsh on yourself before anybody else does. This leads to a sick perfectionism, a hopeless attempt at achieving a utopia. You are never satisfied with what you built so far and in a moment of frustration, you decide to demolish everything so far and start over. So, after all this shit, you find out that during all this time, all you did was procrastinating. You end up losing your enthusiasm, no surprises there.
Well, that period of procrastination took almost 5 years for me. But each day I postponed my project, I got used to the idea of living with the adequate rather than perfect. I noticed that I just want to contribute instead of just sitting here, following others. That thought provoked me and I set achievable goals.
I started with dropping all the fancy stuff that exhibits “I am good at Photoshop” and just concentrated on the most important thing: your reading pleasure. If my visitors want to know how good I am at graphic design, they can always view my portfolio.
Success in this line of work depends on constant learning and it took me quite a while to learn that your reading pleasure (which happens to be my reading pleasure also) is firmly related to simplicity and quality of content. I did all I could for the first one but the latter is even harder to achieve. So here is what I will and won't do about it:
- My articles will be mostly for the experienced audience, yet provided with informative links for less experienced.
- I will publish both informative and debatable articles.
- I will never be that wise-ass you hate who claims to be the authority on debating. Instead, I will learn from my many mistakes I am about to make in later articles, as you the reader correct me.
- I will never publish unnecessary lists of links titled “Showcase of -insert a business category here- Websites”
- I will never give credit to bullshit called “social media strategies” and I will struggle with any “social media specialist” that I encounter.
- I will constantly update this list whenever something important comes up
Finally, I would like thank my good folks at Sanpark, especially Aykut Aydınlı for the time and effort he put on “pyronoming” this website. By the way, check out pyronome time to time. My site is just a little demonstration of what it is capable of.
Today, I can proudly claim that this site is functional and complete on every aspect, not near perfect but it is “okay”.
